OFFICE ESSENTIALS NOTE TAKING tEvernote iPad app
Evernote is a useful tool for PAs – particu- larly if you’re on the go a lot. It’s essentially a note taking tool; however there’s more to it than just making lists. You can also save pic- tures, add audio, collect your favourite web pages creating an interactive and thorough pinboard of projects you’re working on. In particular it’s ideal if your boss also has the app as you can share your notes with them or collaborate with colleagues. Plus Evernote makes all of your notes, audio, pics, files and websites available on every computer or device you use – so whether you’re sat in front of your work desk or at home on your smartphone you can work seamlessly. I found Evernote useful when preparing
for a presentation – I was able to run through all of my notes, check images and websites I was referencing while on the train heading to a conference where the boss was presenting. I find the ability to save all types of files together for one project really useful – often when doing this digitally the files are not linked together so this helped my pro- ductivity. Plus the app can incorporate other apps such as Skitch which can be used to annotate pictures. The only downside for me was that typing notes in Evernote was slow – although I suspect it would be quicker on an iPad with a larger hard drive. INFO

won’t obscure any of the text you’re marking
tBrother QL-700label printer LABELLING
Within 5 minutes of unpacking this compact printer I had it set up and raring to go. The set up really was fool-proof (even for a technophobe like me) and the diminutive proportions of the unit meant it say unobtrusively on the corner of my desk. In the past I’ve printed off labels using
my regular printer – but it’s not always been easy. Trying to line up labels has seen me waste far too many sheets of labels but the QL-700 does everything for you. You simply slot in the reel of labels (which couldn’t be

easier) and they’re automatically lined up. The software gives you the template you
need and you can customise orientation, fonts, colours and sizes. Labels are quickly and quietly printed and dispensed already chopped off the end of the reel. This handy printer makes short work of laborious jobs like dealing with a mass mail out – or even printing out nametags for a conference. All you need is a computer to connect it to. INFO

– plus they can be removed and repositioned with minimum fuss so can be used time and time again. They’re great for indexing jobs or when you want to mark up particular sections of text for your boss to read. The Label Books contain two sets of labels – one standard size and one super-size. Once you’ve added them to a document you can write your own note on them for reference or to jog your memory at a later date. INFO
