Customer: Virginia Tech Human Powered Submarine Team.
• T e 0.13-lb. casting measures 8.5 x 1.8 in. and its maximum thickness is 0.2 in.
• Converting from a machined aluminum component allowed for increased effi ciency and an optimized “bent” shape.
• T e lightweight alloy resists corrosion in a marine environment.
• A 3-D pattern allowed the thin, complex shape to be produced rapidly and inexpensively.
