Casting Conversion Upgrades Space Flight Hardware

Customer: The Boeing Co. Berkely, Mo.
• Casting provided cost savings over alternate manufacturing processes.
• T e completed component weighs 354 lbs. and measures 72 x 65 x 36 in.
• More than 60,000 lbs. of sand and hundreds of unique form chills (metal inserts used to produce chilling and equalize solidifi cation rates) were used on the casting. T is expanded Denison’s typical boundaries of aluminum casting practices.
• Denison worked closely with the customer to ensure dimensional, radiographic and metallurgical casting quality.
