The completed forward top section covered with decking pieces (above left). Be sure to bring the fuel tubing lines out during all covering operations. The basic body of the cowl (above right) is made from ½-inch balsa sheet built up
Bevel the strips at the aft end of the fuse-
lage so that the cardboard sides will come to- gether. Add cardboard supports to each fuselage side below the bellcrank and the fuel tank ply mounting plates. Be sure and cut out holes in the left fuselage side for the bellcrank leadout wires and elevator pushrod. Make the firewall, A, from ¼-inch ply. Lo-
cate the mounting holes for the KM40 motor mount on the front face of A. Drill the mounting holes and install blind mounting nuts on the back side. Drill a hole in A for a fuel tubing exit. Drill two holes in A and in-
and carved to shape. The top portion is glued to the ply firewall and the joint taped over. The removable cowl has a 1⁄8 ply back which attaches to blind nuts in the rear of the engine ply firewall. Side cheeks are made from ¼-inch balsa.
stall blind nuts on the back side. These holes must align with the holes in C1 and are used to attach the removable cowl section. Lay the right side fuselage panel flat on the
work board and glue the firewall A in place, making sure it is at a right angle to the fuse- lage side. When dry, glue the bottom piece F3 in place, which locks in the right angle. Glue the left side of the fuselage to A and
F3. Attach the fuel tank to the 1⁄8-inch ply support with rubber bands. Make a pushrod from 3⁄32-inch wire and ¼-inch square spruce and attach it to the bellcrank along with the leadout wires. Place the assembly over the
plan top view to insure that the fuselage sides are properly aligned. Install the tank and bellcrank assemblies by gluing the ply supports to the cardboard supports on the insides of the fuselage. When dry, glue the fuselage sides together at the tail. Glue F1 and F2 in place to cover the top fuselage. F1 and F2 have large openings for weight savings. Be sure to bring the fuel tubing fill and overflow lines out during all covering operations. Cover the bottom fuse- lage with F4 and F5. Note the gap aft of F5 for the 1⁄8-inch ply tail wheel support. Glue fuselage formers B and C to the top
