OMT-AMT by John Chapis John Chapis of Seaford, DE, calls
his latest creation the One Man’s Trash, Another Man’s Treasure or OMT-AMT for short. The model consists of a modified PT-17 top wing, Shoestring canopy, two trainer tail surfaces reworked and an assortment of MonoKote and colored tissue, all matched to a new fuselage based on Dave Robelen’s Pronto. The model has a wingspan of 48 inches and is powered by a Hacker C-40 on an Astro 40 superbox and 035 pinion and a 14–7 prop. A 2300 mAh 4S2P A123 battery pack provides motivation. John writes, “Next time you see what looks like a salvageable wing, tail or fuselage going in the trash, think about giving it a second life. It’s challenging and fun.”
PHOTO: JOHN CHAPIS 1/24th Scale Kaoscoupe by Harold Davidson Harold Davidson recently inherited
a YS .45 two-stroke engine and wanted a plane for it. Immediately he went to work modifying a Tower Hobbies Kaos ARF by copying the rudder setup on his old Ercoupe model. Harold designed and built the twin tails and rudders that are controlled by a bellcrank at the rear of the fuselage with a rod between the two rudders. With the YS .45 up front complete with the tuned pipe running the center top of the fuselage, the Kaoscoupe flies, takes off and lands like any other Kaos except much faster. Harold continues, “The twin tails are effective but not overly so. They seem to respond like the single tailed plane. So far I haven’t been disappointed with my efforts. The first few times it flew it was a show stopper.”
