anasonic recently revealed that the London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony will feature its latest projection technology.


As the offi cial worldwide audio-visual sponsor of the Olympic


Games, Panasonic will provide its twenty thousand lumens brightness PT-DZ21K Series projectors, which use trademarked 3- Chip digital light processing (DLPTM) technology to generate what the manufacturer described as “previously unsurpassed” levels of projector brightness. The projector also offers a relatively small footprint and low


power consumption of approximately 2,300 watts, with a geometric adjustment function that allows projected images to be shaped, enabling them to be ‘wrapped’ to specially shaped screens and complex surfaces.


It remains to be seen exactly how the Panasonic projectors will


be used, as the exact format of the opening ceremony is a closely guarded secret until proceedings commence on Friday 27 July. But the ceremony is entitled “Isles of Wonder” and has been inspired by Shakespeare’s The Tempest.


Despite the retail sector being one of the most directly affected by London 2012, when BT’s Race To The Line Survey canvassed UK business opinion on its impact six months ago, only half (41%) of retailers believed the unpredictability of dips and surges in customer demand would be one of their key challenges. In response, nearly a quarter were planning to enhance their supply chain management, which was higher than the 12% of all businesses questioned. But only 14% had introduced new systems or technology that would enable them to manage their supply chain in a more fl exible way. And only 11% planned to collaborate with other retailers or logistics providers to share loads or delivery spots, which could ease the pressure.
