A passion for beauty, dogs and the Pharaohs!

IB meets Noiren K. Carrigg, waxing expert, salon owner, educator and founder of Carrigg Brady Beauty.

 I ended up working in beauty because…I originally did an apprenticeship to teach Horse Riding but did not pursue it as a career. My mammy and I sat with a Golden Pages, she ran the pages through her fingers and I stuck a pin at a spot; it was Beauty - a few inches off and I would have become a bearings expert!

 If I wasn’t in the beauty industry I would be…a Forensic Pathologist, as I have had a love affair with Egypt since childhood and studied Forensic Egyptology at the University Manchester. Or it would be working with rescued dogs, particularly Lurchers.

 The best thing about my job is… the passion I have for the industry. I am driven by the people in professional beauty, the therapists and all of us in that innovate, change, shape and improve the future of beauty.

 There is no such thing as an average day for me…I get up at 6.30am and my husband and business partner Conor take our three dogs out for a walk in the countryside. It’s the highlight of my day, I love the fresh air, and fun with the dogs sets my day up in a positive fashion.

In the office I deal with the technical end of products, so I could be discussing new product development with our chemists in Italy where we make our wax or organising skin care training for new accounts. I also work on new treatments for our salon in Bray which has been open for over 22 years.

 My ideal weekend would be… hiking in Wicklow with my husband and dogs. I am dog mad and I have a two-year-old Lurcher called Mr Reilly, an 18-month old Dobermann called Darcy B and a 16-week old Deer Hound called Luna, all rescues.

 My favourite book…would be anything to do with Egyptian, Medieval or Roman history. As a novel, Wuthering Heights would be a favourite. In my car there is always a CD book that I am listening to.

 My favourite part of the world…is Egypt – it’s a passion; my favourite place would be the Valley of the Kings - the view of the valley from the east bank of Luxor with the temple of Hatshepsut, an amazing female Pharaoh, just moves me. Also, Glendalough is one place on earth which brings so many people peace; I practice Mindfulness there with friends every month, it’s so peaceful.

 I could not live without…my husband Conor, he is my inspiration. We are together 26 years and never tire of each other and chat endlessly. He thinks of me before himself, a rare quality and I am still in awe of having such a man as my husband.

 I never really had role models when I was growing up…I always looked to myself to be the best I could be. I was helped and supported by my faith and my relationship with Jesus, and believing that being religious could be cool.

 I would like to be remembered for…my passion and drive and being known and liked as a person who was true to my beliefs. I like that people know the real me; I would like to think they will remember me as a someone who cares deeply, who loves madly, who loses badly and laughs gladly.
