SOUTH MIDWEST
The South Midwest Region welcomed the nation’s best paratriathletes at the CapTexTri in Austin, Texas, on May 28. This race is also part of the Toyota U.S. Open Series. As part of the effort to accommodate the paratriathletes in this region, a paratriathlon committee has been formed by members of the council. They are always looking for your suggestions, which can be sent to
paratriathletes@smwtriathlon.org. A reminder to all race directors of youth races in the region: the council will provide youth finisher awards to race directors for their USAT sanctioned event. Race directors can read about the details of this program at
http://www.smwtriathlon.org/ athletes/youth/youth_youth_elite/
index.htm and should use the request form on that page to order these awards well in advance of the event date. Three aquathlons in the South Midwest Region have been selected to be a part of USA Triathlon’s Splash & Dash Series. On July 28, 2012 there will be the T3Multisports Swim/Run Event in Round Rock, Texas, which will be followed by the Open Water Swim Challenge and Aquathlon in Little Elm, Texas. The final regional race in this series will be on August 4. Volunteers are always welcome and play a critical role in the success of the region and its goals and objectives. “TrainingPeaks has allowed me to track my progress from my very first season to now as I train for the Olympics.”

FLORIDA
With the passing of the season openers and the first races of the season, many athletes have an opportunity to regroup before the end-of-the-season grind. A great way to reassess your
goals, learn new skills and jump start the back end of your season is with a training camp. Training camps give athletes the opportunity to learn from experienced coaches while pushing them to higher fitness levels with other athletes.
The Florida Region hosts a variety of training camps throughout the season for athletes to participate in — at no cost to the athlete. The region also boasts a large selection of coaches who run their own camps throughout the season. The camps/ clinics cater to youth/juniors, paratriathletes and age-groupers and can range from one-day clinics before the race to week-long overnight camps.
