Perennial of the Year


Hardy grasses add structure and texture to perennial plantings. They are generally easy to main- tain, requiring only an annual shearing before spring growth starts. Allow 2 to 3 years for them to grow to their full potential.


Karl Foerster Feather Reed Grass


11971–(Calamagrostis acutifl ora ‘Karl Foerster’)–Zones 5-9–Remains upright and attractive. This non-inva- sive grass has an erect plant habit, forming tidy, com- pact clumps of deep green, lustrous foliage 24 to 36 inches high. 12106–(Hakonechloa macra ‘Aureola’)–Zones 5-9–Cas- cading clumps look like golden waterfalls. This shade-loving grass has arching, bamboo-like leaves of bright yellow streaked with green lines. In fall, the fo- liage takes on hues of pinkish-red. Plants grow 12 to 18 inches tall and spread slowly by stolons, but are not invasive. Helleborus


Zones 4-9–Flowering in late winter, hellebores sparkle as one of the fi rst signs of spring. These vigorous varieties produce large, uniquely colored blooms on plants with attractive evergreen foli- age. Little Bluestem Grass

A narrow, upright habit makes it attractive in beds and borders. Hardy and tough, it thrives in hot, dry areas where other plants cannot survive. Grows 30 to 36 inches tall and up to 24 inches wide.
