(Digitalis purpurea)–Zones 4-9–Beautiful spikes carry upfacing bells. Unlike other foxgloves, the tubular bells lining the fl ower spikes look right at you so you can view their interesting speckled interior. Hummingbirds love them! Strong-stemmed, 36 to 48 inch tall plants bloom in June and July. Cut back after fl owering, but leave a few spikes to reseed. Prefers a partially shaded location. Biennial. ◗

Yellow Foxglove


11444–(Digitalis grandifl ora; D. ambigua) Zones 3-8–Brings color and vertical interest to shady areas. This foxglove is a true perennial, so it’s longer-lived than the more common biennial types. Spikes carry dense, pendulous clusters of 2 inch, bell-shaped, yellow fl owers accented with brown spots inside, held above a base of lance-shaped, hairy foliage.
