Energy disputes

Ongoing uncertainty and turbulence within the energy industry has led to a significant rise in disputes over the past year. One of the most high profile cases within this field is the ongoing case involving Chevron and the highly publicised oil spill. This is still ongoing with several developments per month.

M&a: India

In response to the recent decision by the Indian Supreme Court to rule in favour of Vodafone, allowing it to escape a tax bill of $2 billion from the deal it struck in 2007 to enter India, the Indian government has now proposed changes to amend its tax law. If enacted, the government will effectively be able to tax all deals done by foreign entities involving assets located in India since 1962, dealing a major blow to foreign investors in the country.
