face-to-face communication is still key for legal professionals


Mars Drinks specialises in providing premium hot drinks to the workplace. It is part of Mars Incorporated, a private, family-run company founded in 1911 that employs over 65,000 associates at more than 230 sites, including 135 factories in 68 countries worldwide. A company of this size has to hold the welfare of its employees in high stead, and as such, places great importance on the issues surrounding modern working life. Mars Drinks UK recently undertook a survey of the working lives of one of the hardest working professions in the modern world, lawyers. The findings were very interesting, showing that legal professionals are more likely than any other profession to work longer hours, spending more time on the phone and communicating with colleagues. Although technological advances have created a variety of ways to communicate within the office, this recent study found that two thirds of legal professionals believe technology has not made communicating in the office any easier. This month, Lawyer Monthly speaks to Jenni Morgan, trade marketing manager for Mars Drinks UK, who looks in more detail at the working lives of lawyers and how they best like to communicate and engage with their colleagues.


the working day is no 9-5 The standard 9-5 working day with an hour for lunch is no longer the norm for UK office workers. On average, staff spend nine hours and 13 minutes in the office every day and take a break for lunch that lasts just 28 minutes 51 seconds. Legal professionals clock up even more hours than that, spending an average of 10 hours and 13 minutes at work - a staggering total of 51 hours a week.
