Cast Iron Makes Its Star Turn

Te Food Network has found a winning formula by building a show (Food Network Star) around the process of discovering its up and coming on-air personalities.

But for those in the metalcasting industry, the star of the

show’s 2012 season premiere on May 13 was cast iron. As the episode was building toward elimination of a contestant, a

close-up of cookware from Lodge Manufacturing Co., South Pittsburg, Tenn., filled the frame.

According to Henry Lodge, company president, a variety of cooking shows request pans and serving dishes, and the company generally complies. So it’s hard to tell when star-

struck moments like the one above will occur. Luckily, cast iron never needs hair and makeup.
