Metalcasting
T e American Foundry Society (AFS) has issued a call for papers for CastExpo ‘13 and the 117th
Metalcasting
Congress, to be held April 6-9, 2013, at the America Center, St. Louis. All papers must be relevant to metalcasting, diecasting and foundry operations and must contribute to the enhancement of metalcasting quality and productiv- ity, covering topics such as operations, new technologies, procedures, products, equipment and other innovations, and casting design and purchasing. Abstracts are due Aug. 15, and complete manuscripts are
due Sept. 15. Paper number assignment, off er and abstract forms, the author’s guide and paper templates are available on the AFS paper submission website,
www.papers.afsinc. org. Submission opens July 1.

AFS Students Conduct Third Annual Iron Pour
Students from the Univ. of Wisconsin-Platteville, Platteville,
Wis., conducted their third annual AFS Alumni Cupola Iron Pour on April 27-28. T e event began on Friday evening at the AFS student
chapter meeting attended by approximately 50 people, including the university chancellor, metalcasting indus- try professionals, parents and students. John Anderson, the student chapter president, was recognized as the 2012 AFS Copper Alloy Division Scholarship winner. Anderson received a $1,000 scholarship and also was honored at AFS’s 116th
Metalcasting Congress in Columbus in mid-April. Leo
Baran, AFS director of membership services, was present as a guest speaker at the event. T e iron pour was held the following morning. Alumni and guests watched as students poured steak branding molds created the previous evening.

This is the third year the Univ. of Wisconsin-Platteville student chapter has organized an AFS Alumni Iron Pour to support the UW-Platteville student metalcasting facility and provide an opportunity for alumni to become involved. Foundry Educational Foundation Key Professor Kyle Metzloff is the student chapter’s sponsor.
