Hunter Announces New Vertical-Blow Flask-Filling Device Hunter Automated Machinery Corp., Schaumburg,

Ill., introduced its new JetSlinger technology for auto- matic molding in April at the 116th

gress in Columbus, Ohio. The air am- plification apparatus disperses sand into the cope and drag sections of a mold on Hunter XL machines to produce molds quickly with improved surface quality over conventional blow-fill machines. T e JetSlinger was developed based

on the Venturi principle, which states fl uid velocity will increase when fl owing through a constricted section of pipe for a jet eff ect. T e mold-fi lling device, which is currently in beta testing, directs a met- alcaster’s sand mixture through an array of nozzle assemblies with a blast of air. T e nozzles are built into a manifold and mounted directly above mold sections. According to Hunter, the filling ac-

tion results in greater uniformity of mold density and wall hardness, without sacrificing the accessibility and flexibility of a gravity-fill machine. Perpendicular filling avoids the shadow effect caused by side blow filling. The JetSlinger, invented by Hunter President Bill Hunter, was developed to compensate for mold quality limita- tions caused by sand flowability and pattern configura- tion during the high pressure squeeze cycle. During operation, the sand mixture is loaded into the hopper and the hopper gates open. Rotating blades aerate the mixture, which is delivered into the Venturi manifold. Under pressure, the mixture is slung through 20 nozzles into the mold flask, which fills with pre-com- paction around the pattern plate. Hunter expects the JetSlinger to be available for the

first time as an option on the Hunter XL2024 automated matchplate molding machine in late 2012, with other XL models to follow. Existing XL machines can be retrofit-

ted with the device, as well. Visit www.hunterauto.com for more information.
