Recruitment Head of Safety & Compliance


We are seeking to appoint an experienced safety professional to the role of Head of Safety and Compliance for DBTW. Reporting to the Contract and Business Support Director, the appointed person will have responsibility for leading our approach to safety and environmental compliance.


Key responsibilities will include the development and implementation of safety management systems across all Metro operational activities, interpretation and application of new and existing health and safety legislation and identifying and introducing industry best safety and environmental practice as appropriate.


The postholder will act as the primary interface with the Office of Rail Regulation, Railway Safety and Standards Board, Rail Accident Investigation Branch, Network Rail Safety Department, Nexus Safety Department and all other safety and environmental enforcing authorities.


The Head of Safety and Compliance will produce the Metro Safety Plan and the Metro Environmental Plan setting targets for performance, and monitor the implementation of the plans across the business.


Supported by the Safety and Business Risk Manager, the postholder will audit and report on safety and environmental compliance in the Metro departments and work with departments to implement improvements.


Excellent interpersonal skills will be required to provide the inspirational leadership needed for our programme of business improvement and development. Relationships with key stakeholders will be key to success in this area.


The successful candidate will be educated to degree level and be a Chartered member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) as well as having relevant senior management experience with a proven track record of safety compliance.


Salary: Dependant on experience
