First Hull Trains appoints health and safety manager
First Hull Trains has appointed Ian Lee, 56, as its health, safety and environmental manager.
Lee, who has moved to First Hull Trains from First Capital Connect where he was in charge of the safety management arrangements on both the Thameslink programme and King’s Cross station redevelopment, will head up a team overseeing effective and safe running of the company’s services between Hull and London. He said: ‘I decided to move to First Hull Trains as I wanted to get more involved with day-to- day safety management. My most recent position was in a strategic
role and I wanted a post in which I could have a combination of the two; this health, safety and environmental manager post provides the perfect opportunity.’
Tributes paid to councillor
When Angus Adams, chair of the West
Midlands Integrated Transport Authority, died suddenly in April, aged 67, leaders of Britain’s six largest transport authorities paid tribute to him.

Mark Dowd, chair of the ITA Special Interest Group, described him as a man of character, with a real commitment to serving the interests of public transport.
Siemens recruits depot director for Thameslink
Siemens recruits depot director for Thameslink Ruth Humphrey, 46, has taken on the role of project director – depots, for Siemens Rail Systems, with overall responsibility for delivery of the Thameslink depots at Hornsey and Three Bridges.
She brings more than 20 years’ experience of both the delivery and commercial sides of engineering projects, including heavy and light rail.
She said: ‘These two depots are critical to the success of the Thameslink Rolling Stock Project and I am pleased to be joining Siemens at such a pivotal time in the project delivery.’

Amjad Bangash has been appointed managing director of rail at Bechtel, after 20 years with the company, most recently as project director at Khalifa Port and Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi
Project, UAE.
In his new role, Bangash, 53, who has a BSc and doctorate in civil engineering, will be responsible for expanding Bechtel’s global rail and transit business.
Coal expert joins GB Railfreight
Amanda Wilson has joined GB Railfreight (GBRf) as its new head of coal, replacing Phil Webster, who is now head of contract management. Wilson, 44, joined British Rail’s
Youth Training Scheme at the age of 16 in 1983, going on to work for East Midlands Freight as a coal controller.
Before joining GBRf she
worked for EWS in various positions within the coal team. Phil Webster said: ‘It is a
pleasure to welcome Amanda to the team. Amanda is well experienced in the ESI Coal business, has customer service excellence and his well respected within the power generation business.’
