We have an unique opportunity in our Train Planning department for a Timetable Development Planner - Thameslink Rolling Stock Programme (TRSP). This vital role will work closely with Network Rail and the Department for Transport to mesh the phased implementation of TRSP delivery in conjunction with the milestones of the remaining Thameslink Programme. This post will plan the associated incremental timetable and resource changes caused by new fleet arrival, including early test train requirements. The successful applicant must be able to effectively demonstrate the optimal service effect of recommended proposals, and also be able to specify compliant changes to the short term timetable plan should there be the need to accommodate any deviation from the delivery programme. The role will require the ability to creatively develop resilient service plans whilst understanding the variable infrastructure capabilities of the route, and also be responsive to circumstantial change which may necessitate late variations.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following in their application:
• A sound knowledge and experience of the principles of Railway Operations and the UK Rail Industry.
The role encompasses ensuring sufficiently trained and motivated drivers are provided to safely operate our network on a daily basis.
As the successful candidate you will have good interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain working relationships with external and internal bodies. You will be dealing with industrial relations at all levels and be accountable for delivery of all driver related KPI’s. You will work closely with the Driver Manager team to ensure the safety critical competencies and safety briefings of Drivers and trainees are managed in the most cost effective and timely way. You will be responsible for implementing plans to ensure that strategy is delivered, including budgets and manpower planning.
• Familiarity with industry planning and modelling systems. • Experience of office desktop and presentational facilities. • The ability to work accurately and flexibly in respond to changing work demands.
• Excellent communication skills. • Previous experience in the train planning field is essential.

When it opens in 2018, Crossrail will connect 37 stations, from Heathrow in the West to Canary Wharf in the East. You’ll develop and maintain signalling standards and work instructions to ensure train services reflect stringent safety standards. Key tasks will include preparing safety assurance documentation, producing a Crossrail “Rule Book” and establishing a competence management system. You’ll also identify training needs for signallers.

The role calls for extensive railway operations management experience, including producing signalling operations standards and working instructions. A good knowledge of safety procedures, Health & Safety and welfare issues, a high level of IT literacy and proven management skills will be required.
