ARKEMA’S LATEST PEBAX MH2030 AND MV2080 GRADES OFFER HIGHER CONDUCTIVITIES IN A RANGE OF RESINS
Bellingen. She adds that Timcal has seen significant demand for its Ensaco 250G conductive carbon black due to its high cleanliness and very good dispersability. For a given compound conductivity, this additive has been shown to provide equal if not better overall properties than lower loadings of an extra-conductive carbon black which is inherently more problematic to disperse, according to Van Bellingen. It has shown to be particularly suitable for use in trace-sensitive polymers like PC and thermoplastic polyesters. Timcal is now investing in significantly increasing
conductive carbon black capacity at its Willebroek, facility in Belgium in order to meet growing demand in both the polymer and battery markets. In addition to CNTs and conductive carbon blacks,
there is also continued interest in other ‘permanent’ and/or inherently dissipative polymers (IDPs). One of
the major players in IDPs is Arkema with its Pebax line of polyether-ester block (PEBA) copolymer TPEs. Used as a moulding and extrusion material in its own right, the material delivers intrinsic static-dissipative characteristics when blended with a broad range of plastics. Arkema’s traditional focus in this arena had been on polyolefins, ABS and PC used in conductive/ antistatic plastics applications (109
Ohm/sq.ft). These
include intermediate bulk containers for plastic resins and are designed to reduce the static build-up of the pellets. Other applications include artificial grass and plastic moving parts for printers. Last year Arkema launched two new products aimed at the mid-range static dissipative market with higher conductivities (106
to 129 Ohm/sq.ft, and under). Both
are based on proprietary technology that is said to improve compatibility with the plastics for which they
