Avidity IP hires new head for pharma team
European patent and trademark firm Avidity IP has hired former chief patent counsel at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Dr Sally Mannion, to lead its pharma and nutrition team. From May 1, 2012, Mannion will also hold a business unit directorship with strategic responsibilities.
She brings to Avidity IP experience in litigation throughout Europe (including the Court of Justice of the EU) and in several other jurisdictions, EPO oppositions and other contentious practice, as well as a wealth of other IP practice and IP management skills. With her substantial biologics experience, Mannion will create a bridge between Avidity IP’s pharma and nutrition and life sciences teams.
Following her studies, Mannion joined ICI (now Astra-Zeneca) as a research fellow, transferring to the IP function in 1986. She joined the European patent department of Wyeth (then American Home Products) as a senior patent attorney in 1996, becoming director of patents and trademarks in 2006. Following the acquisition of Wyeth by Pfizer in October 2009, Mannion undertook consultancy work and then worked for Cleveland.

Patton Boggs bolsters IP strength Robert Hilton
Te Dallas, Texas, office of the US law firm of Patton Boggs LLP has substantially expanded its capabilities in the IP arena with the addition of four lawyers who were formerly affiliated with the Dallas office of SNR Denton.

In particular, Hilton and Johnston have extensive experience with patent prosecution issues common to medical devices, including surgical, orthopaedic and therapeutic devices. Fox Rothschild’s New York IP practice grows
Fox Rothschild LLP has welcomed partners Tim Mandelbaum, Michael L. Reinert and Monika A. Tashman to its New York office.
Te new additions in Manhattan complement the east coast presence of practice co-chair Lori Landew and offer service synergy with Los Angeles-based practice co-chair Darrell D. Miller. Te attorneys will expand service offerings to the firm’s diverse range of entertainment industry clients.
Prior to joining Fox, Mandelbaum held his own private practice, Selverne Mandelbaum and Mintz LLP, for 16 years and also served as head of business and legal affairs for EMI Records. As an experienced IP and entertainment attorney, Mandelbaum regularly negotiates contracts and handles matters regarding copyrights, trademarks and other branding tools for his clients.
Reinert has worked with many platinum-selling artists as a private practitioner and as legal counsel to Atlantic Records, Electra Records, as vice president of business affairs at PolyGram Records, and most recently, as executive vice president of business and legal affairs at the Universal Motown Republic Group of UMG Recordings, Inc.
Tashman is well versed in the ins and outs of brand development and takes a holistic approach to her clients’ business and legal affairs. She counsels multi-platform talent, child entertainers and dynamic entrepreneurs in legal and contractual issues, advocating and negotiating on her clients’ behalf, while assessing and defending against possible copyright, trademark infringement and contract claims.
