MOVERS AND SHAKERS ITC lawyers join Duane Morris Michael G. McManus


Michael G. McManus and Rodney R. Sweetland III have joined Duane Morris LLP IP practice group as partners in its Washington, DC offi ce. T eir arrival further bolsters Duane Morris’s IP practice group,


in particular with respect to complex patent infringement cases before the International Trade Commission (ITC), which they will co-lead. T ey join Duane Morris from McKool Smith, where they were the founders of that fi rm’s DC offi ce.


McManus focuses his practice on patent-based Section 337 litigation before the ITC, along with patent infringement litigation in the federal district courts. McManus has also represented clients in administrative proceedings before US Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Prior to starting his private practice, he was an attorney advisor with CBP.


McManus is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, ITC Trial Lawyers Association, Washington International Trade Association, Patent Lawyers Club of Washington and the Georgia Conservancy. He is admitted to practise in Washington, DC and Georgia and to practise before the US Court of International Trade and the US Patent and Trademark Offi ce.


Sweetland focuses his practice in the areas of IP and unfair trade practices litigation before the ITC and federal district courts, as well as complex commercial litigation. He also represents clients in matters involving semiconductors, lighting

controls, optical processing and video graphic displays, among others.


Sweetland is a member of the Federal Circuit Bar Association and the ITC Trial Lawyers Association. He served in the US Army Reserve from 1988 to 2002 and is admitted to practise in Washington, DC.


Novagraaf UK strengthens patent team


Dr Peter Wilson


Intellectual property consultancy Novagraaf UK has expanded its patent team with the hire of IP expert Dr Peter Wilson. Wilson will be providing patent services to businesses in south east England, from Novagraaf ’s Norwich offi ce.


Wilson is a qualifi ed UK and European patent attorney with a decade’s experience providing IP consultancy services to the academic sector and start-up companies, specialising in life sciences, medical devices, engineering and soſt ware.


Before his training in IP law, Wilson worked as a research scientist for 16 years. He holds a BSc Hons in food processing technology and a PhD in mathematical modelling of microbial growth; he has joined Novagraaf from IP21.


At Novagraaf, Wilson will be advising clients across a wide range of technical disciplines, including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, green technology and mechanical engineering.
