Conveyors & Automation Case Study Rotary notion

UPM Conveyors has developed a new version of its Rotary Table (Lazy Susan) to operate as an integrated part of a product handling system, at what it claims is the most competitive price – £1,600 – in the market.

T

he Lazy Susan can also oper- ate as an integrated part of a product handling system, or as a stand-alone unit to

act as a buffer when required for ac- cumulating and unloading product, also ensuring total evacuation. It incorporates variable speed control as standard. An optional extra is the overhead mounted multi-adjustable product fl ow orientation guide to ensure fi rst- in, fi rst-out (FIFO) of product.

UPM guarantees the elimination of any operator trap points, as the underside of the table is totally enclosed and conforms to all Health and Safety at Work acts. Infeed and outfeed belt conveyors can also be supplied from a standard range of plastic link belts, which include 90° and 180° bends, allowing versatility into a production area where space is limited. UPM can custom engineer a system at no extra cost, as all manufacture is carried out in-house.

UPM was awarded the Queen’s

Award for Innovation for its production of High Molecular Weight Polyethyl- ene (HMWPE) belt conveyors, which has now been extended to the range of Rotary Tables which are avail- able in a variety of diameters. Each of the sorter’s 24 outfeed stations has two pneumatically operated openers. Using target codes, operators can defi ne two outfeed points for each chute, which theoretically brings twice the sorter perfor- mance again. After the goods have been sorted, employees scan them, pack them into boxes and return them to storage. “We achieved the desired increase in performance,” continued Manfred Pörtner, “and, importantly, ensured suffi cient reserve capacity to make the investment future-proof.” n
