Industry recognised by Queen’s Awards
Two leading companies from the logistics industry have been awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise. Transdek, a Yorkshire-based loading equipment manufacturer, has received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation for its ground-breaking developments in truck loading systems, whilst Cirrus Logistics, a provider of decision support software for the supply chain industry, has received the Queen’s Award for Outstanding Performance in International Trade. Transdek has been recognised for its continued innovation in the production and installation of modular hydraulic lifts to service double-deck trailers, which carry up to 67% more product than conventional HGVs. This has enabled transport operators to make significant cost and environmental savings, with one of the UK’s largest supermarket chains alone claiming a reduction of 12 million road miles travelled in 2010. It is the second time Transdek has won this prestigious award. “It’s great news that our policy of continued investment in developing lifting solutions that can deliver substantial cost savings, environmental improvements and operational benefits has been recognised with a Queen’s Award,” said Mark Adams, managing director of Transdek.
“Over the last 15 years we have used our expertise and commercial experience together with extensive research and development, and patenting of the resulting intellectual property, to establish Transdek as a market-leading
innovator. It also puts us in a strong position to capitalise on the significant growth opportunities that exist.” Cirrus Logistics won the award for its tremendous growth in exports under the ‘Outstanding Performance in International Trade’ category. Cirrus Logistics was established in the late 1980s to provide easy- to-use decision support software solutions through applying advanced scheduling, simulation and optimisation techniques. The recent growth in sales of the company’s two major products - CLASS and SEABERTH, contributed to an overseas earnings growth of 148% between 2009 and 2011, with total turnover increasing by 92%. “We’re extremely proud to have received this award; it’s a great acknowledgement of our efforts, as a small business that has grown into overseas markets over the last three years,” commented Simon Shore, managing director of Cirrus Logistics. “It’s also very rewarding to the team at Cirrus Logistics, who have been responsible for these impressive results. “Today we still have the same aim of providing easy-to-use, reliable products that we’ve developed to solve real world problems, complemented by a strong customer-centric service ethos. We’re launching the new generation of CLASS this summer and we have many other exciting product developments in the pipeline. Cirrus Logistics would like to thank the Queen’s Awards Committee for this recognition.” n
