Improving your health
Getting healthier is one of the easiest things you can do to make your life better: • You will feel more healthy and be able to do more for yourself. • You can meet more people and build your social network by making new friends. • You can improve your wellbeing.
Social network: All the people you know and the different relationships you have with them: friends; work mates; people you see in the street; neighbours etc.
Wellbeing: Being physically and mentally well. Physical activity usually makes people feel better and improves their mental health.
Whether you want to join a dance group, go for a walk, join a gym or try something else, there are healthy things to do across the city.
Health improvement service
If you want to get healthier, but are not sure where to start, your local health improvement workers can support you. They can give you information and advice about local groups. They may be able to come with you to a group, to help you settle in. They can even help you to set up a group, if there isn’t one already.
The service works with individuals, groups and families offering a range of services including: • Stopping smoking. • Healthy eating and allotment groups. • Indoor and outdoor physical activity groups. • Family weight support. • Sexual health, alcohol and drug information. • Groups to improve people’s mental health. • Family support. • Immunisation, screening and cancer prevention information.
