been found that the tone of voice changes according to the fluctuation of the hormone ratio (variations through the feminine cycle, with harmony being found at the time of ovulation, and 'disharmony' at menstruation). Menopause and male climacterium are periods during which changes strongly affect the harmonics of the voice, which means that communication is altered, transformed; these signs, hardly identifiable, are well perceived by the brain. It has been proven that, with regard to
some neurovegetative diseases, such as ParkinsonÕs, olfaction and taste are affected in very early stages of disease, and long before any clinical signs might manifest (in up to 80% of cases). Furthermore, these alterations develop together with the illness. Olfaction and taste seem to be closely linked to cognitive alterations. Finally, it is now also known that some
smells are typical, for instance, of some forms of cancer, and equipment will soon be available that is capable of
identifying some cancers through smell. This is already the case for prostate cancer, using dogs sniffing urine. It is equally true for bowel or ovarian cancer.
An eclectic congress The scientific sessions that this year's AMWC presented to attendees certainly reflected these trends in the market, while providing a plethora of learning opportunities to health professionals from a variety of different specialties. The Scientific Committee of the
AMWC ® Pierre Andr• , Dermatologist, France; Claude Dalle, Anti-Ageing Practitioner, France; Patrick Tr• vidic, Plastic Surgeon, France ® successfully gave a mature and varied programme, with faculty members from over 120 countries worldwide. This far-reaching programme was reflected in the congress attendees, who came from the four corners of the Earth to enhance their skills and knowledge, while finding time to visit the 180 exhibitors present. And as always, the 3 days of congress and exhibition were completed with the
ever-glamourous Forever Young Gala dinner, giving attendees, speakers and exhibitors a chance to let down their hair and enjoy some quality entertainment and good food.
The future Congratulations must go to the team at EuroMediCom for continually producing a fantastic event, and one which has become the most important on the physician's calendar. Next year's event will take place on 4–6 April, and is certainly set to be better than ever.
