WALLACE HEADS SOUTH AFTER FALKIRK

New Huddersfield Town recruit thankful for help from PFA Scotland

If achieving success is about making the most of the opportunities that come your way then Murray Wallace is a shining example of how to take these chances. The 19 year old Falkirk centre half has enjoyed a fantastic debut season in senior football and as a result has secured a transfer to ambitious League One side Huddersfield Town.

Murray spoke to PFA Scotland and said “I knew when I returned to pre-season training that there would be opportunities to become a first team player as many of the squad from the previous season were released due to financial issues. The next challenge was to take advantage of this and prove that I should be playing as I have a lot of self-belief in my ability.” Having established himself in the team Murray has been quick to recognise the influence of the management team `at Falkirk on his level of performances. “My manager Steven Pressley has been, and is, a great mentor and coach to me as he has

helped enormously with many aspects of my game defensively and in terms of decision making. I must add that the other coaching staff have also aided my development, especially Lee Bullen who has now left the club, as he brought me through at

under 19 and reserve level.” The consistency and standard of Murray’s performances meant that he was courted by several English clubs during the January transfer window before he opted to join Huddersfield Town. “I chose Huddersfield from the options I had because I felt it was the club which offered me the best possibility to continue my development in terms of playing regular first team football. Obviously there has been a change in management since my move was finalised but the new manager Simon Grayson and his coaching staff have been in contact and have been very positive about my move to join them in the summer.”

As the latest graduate of Falkirk’s successful Academy Murray believes that there are several other players who will attract significant attention in the near future. “There are many quality players being produced but the ones to look out for are Steven Kingsley, Jay Fulton and Craig Sibbald. Others such as Kieran Duffie and Stewart Murdoch have already established themselves in the first team and look certain to move to bigger clubs.” Finally, Murray was grateful to PFA Scotland for representing him during his transfer negotiations and added “the advice I had from Liam O’Donnell and Ricky Gillies was great and settled any worries or problems I had at any time, particularly as Ricky had experienced transfer dealings in his career.”

Making the most of his opportunity has ensured that Murray Wallace has a bright future ahead of him both on and off the pitch as he plans to continue his Open University Business degree course even as he begins the next chapter in his football career.
