GARY BUCHANAN is arguably the doyen of British cruise writers, a specialist for some 20 years and a connoisseur of all things maritime. He writes regularly for The Times and The Telegraph and is author of three books on QE2.

YVONNE HORN is an award-winning travel writer who makes her home in Northern California but also studies the latest fads in cruise fitness. While never passing up a water journey, she expresses a bias for off-the-beaten-track cruises on small ships.

ANDREW MACLEAR started working with a camera when he was 16. From there he moved to documentary film making and latterly to screen and TV writing, working in England and the USA developing and formatting drama series. Photography remains his primary interest.


PETER NEWALL has been in the travel industry since 1974 but has been visiting ships for more than 45 years. He is a well-known writer and author of five highly acclaimed books, including the histories of Union-Castle Line and Orient Line.

PETSA KAFFENS is a freelance fashion, beauty and travel writer, fashion editor of Black Hair magazine and contributor to Beauty, Live Well, Health & Fitness and You & Your Wedding. She has also written three books on beauty.


ANTHONY NICHOLAS is a freelance writer who contributes to the likes of The Independent and Scotsman. He grew up with a love of such great liners as Olympic, Bremen and Normandie and has made almost 100 cruises and crossings to date.


ANTHONY LAMBERT has contributed to or written 10 travel books, and is a regular travel writer for the likes of the Daily Telegraph, Independent, Financial Times, Sunday Mirror and The Oldie. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.


CAROL WRIGHT is a freelance travel writer who, in addition to destination travel, specialises in cruising, food and spas. She has been chairman of the British Guild of Travel Writers twice and has written 30 books on travel and food subjects.


STEVE NEWMAN is a former school-teacher who gave it all up to become a travel writer and photographer. He now provides illustrated features to a variety of newspapers and magazines and is a keen champion of adventure and eco-cruising.


PETER RUSHTON is an ex-Union Castle Line officer who has served in all manner of ships under the House Flag of the British & Commonwealth Group. Today, he still devotes his working life to the cruise industry, specialising in lecture programmes for many lines.
