FOND FAREWELL TO VAULTS MANAGER JIM BYERS
Well done to Jim for earning an award for editor/writer of the year.
Many of you will no doubt already have noticed the absence of Annabel Meikle (below), who stepped down as venue manager at The Vaults in March. A true veteran of the Society, Annabel occupied a
Spreading the word in Bavaria and Hesse
GERMANY
The Society recently put in a star turn at this year’s Finest Spirits Festival, one of the top spirit fairs for German-speaking countries. With more than 500 visitors to its stand over
three days, as well as a whisky masterclass, which was the talk of the exhibition, the Society’s third year at the fair was its most successful yet. Ralf Danzer, a representative for the Society in
Bavaria and Hesse, said: “This was a great chance to spread the word about the Society’s single cask, single malt whiskies across Europe. So we worked hard to share our passion and welcome all our new members.”

number of roles (often simultaneously) and brought tremendous energy and vivacity to each one. The good news is that she will still be involved with the Society in various capacities, including occupying a regular fi reside seat at The Vaults. We wish her all the best for the future, and thank her for all the ideas, insights and support she has given Unfi ltered over the years. Society ambassador Craig Johnstone has taken on a new role with Bruichladdich Distillery – we wish him all the best and look forward to his Bruichladdich whisky tasting at 28 Queen Street in April. Also at Queen Street, we’re excited to introduce 15 new wines to our list, and looking forward to Champagne Month in May, which will feature an extended range of Champagnes and special tastings throughout the month.

PRIVATE TASTINGS
Ever enjoyed a Society tasting so much that you wanted to take it away to enjoy with friends or colleagues? Well, UK members now have a unique opportunity to do just that, with private tastings which recreate our popular members’ events. “If a member liked the sound of a Loch Fyne event, we’d craft a special menu with Loch Fyne food and invite a representative to talk about the produce, and serve matched SMWS malts,” said the Society’s UK sales manager Mark van der Vijver. “This presents a very exciting opportunity to treat friends or colleagues to an exclusive, tailor-made whisky dinner experience with endless and ever-changing themes to choose from.” For more information, contact the team on 0131 555 2266 /
