Certification ensures security along the line
Independent distributor, America II Electronics, has earned certification under the custom trade partnership against terrorism (C-TPAT) program. This voluntary initiative was started by the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to increase security along US borders. It will allow America II to better secure its supply chain, while moving products into the United States more efficiently.
Director of import/export compliance at
America II,Marie Cabral, said: “We are taking a proactive approach to ensure that our products are secure fromthemoment they leave their original destination until they reach our warehouse in Florida. C-TPAT certification provides onemore line of defense in our stringent security process.”
America II’s partnership with CBP ensures
products have not been tampered with when they arrive. CBP reviews themost secure packagingmethods with its partners to ensure the safe transition of products and prior to C-TPAT certification, CBP conducts a security profile.
America II Electronics successfully completed
a domestic and foreign site validation process, demonstrating its adherence to global supply chain security standards.

Safe sourcing is conflict-free
Manufacturer of passive components, AVX, has announced that all its current tantalum powder and wire suppliers are compliant with the independently-audited conflict-free smelter programme (CFS). AVX claims to be the first in the industry to reach this point, providing assurance to its customers that all AVX products contain only conflict-free tantalum.
The company isworking in accordancewith
the principles of the Dodd-Frank legislation and currentOECD due diligence guidance for responsiblemineral supply chains from conflict-affected and high-risk areas. This document targets companies sourcingminerals ormetals fromconflict-affected areas ofweak governance and provides recommendations to help respect human rights and avoid contributing to conflict throughmineral or metal purchasing practices.
The announcement is another step in AVX’s
efforts to keep conflictminerals out of the supply chain, as demonstrated by its ten year policy of not using tantalumsourced fromthe Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) or any area inwhich insurgents benefit fromthe sale ofminerals.
AVXwill continue this role byworkingwith
multiple stakeholder partners, including companies such asMotorola Solutions, HP and Intel, in the Solutions for Hope pilot program. This programaims to demonstrate that conflict-free tantalumcan bemined fromthe DRC to the benefit of the local population. Based on a closed-pipe supply chain the initiative could ultimately allowthe DRC to return as a supplier of responsibly-sourced minerals to the tantalumindustry.
