PIXA PROFESSIONAL HEADLAMPS FROM PETZL

The ECA’s online store is open for business and here, in our regular focus on products and deals, Neil Hayden highlights the useful PIXA range of headlamps from PETZL

I

t’s a spark’s paradox, that we are often bringing light into an area, but while we are working and improving this situation for everyone who comes after us, we tend to have to put up with a gloomy environment.

This is potentially hazardous, especially when working in confined spaces, and can be frustrating – especially when you can’t find that essential tool you need for the next procedure. Good lighting in the immediate work area can,

therefore, be essential for getting the job done well – and efficiently. You can use floor-mounted torches focused on the immediate work area, clip-on work lamps to provide light in the general environment, allowing you to move around safely, or even a torch held in the mouth – as many electricians do – to avoid shadows. Whilst these sort of lighting systems do improve the

situation, the PIXA range of headlamps from PETZL – which we’re focusing on in this issue – can deliver just what you need in working conditions. With a clear, focused beam of light on the detailed area of the workplace, there are no shadows, light is projected right on to what you’re looking at and your hands are left free to get on with the job in hand.

Background Ferdinand Petzl designed the world’s first dedicated head- mounted torch in 1971, specifically to meet the needs of people carrying out activities in challenging environments such as caving, climbing, potholing and, later, mining, where hands-free operation is essential and can be a lifesaver – and where hazards such as high shock/impact, water and mist require more robustness and durability than a regular torch can handle. The PIXA range of headlamps offers the following benefits: n Standard operating time of 12 hours on one set of double AA batteries, while optional nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable or lithium batteries are available that will double the effective operation of the light on full power;

n Great structural strength – they are drop tested from two metres onto concrete;
