5 Players to Watch Spencer Parks St. Paul’s (Md.)

The North Carolina-bound senior midfielder had 21 goals and 13 assists last year. Said St. Paul’s coach Rick Brocato: “No doubt he is one of the most athletic players I’ve ever coached.”

Steve Pontrello St. Augustine Prep (N.J.) Also a UNC signee, Pontrello has 209

career points. The senior midfielder is one of four high schoolers on the U.S. U19 team.

Will McNamara Haverford School (Pa.) The Virginia-bound McNamara played four different

positions last year but will focus on midfield in 2012. “As he goes, we’re going to go this year,” Haverford coach John Nostrant said.

Jake Matthai Gilman School (Md.) Yet another North Carolina recruit, Matthai uses his

6-foot-6 frame to his advantage. Greyhounds coach Brooks Matthews said he has become more of a leader.

Deemer Class Loyola Blakefield (Md.) An All-American last year, Class (29g, 25a) signed

with Duke. “He does not make mental mistakes and that, combined with his physical play, makes him hard to defend,” Loyola coach Jack Crawford said.
