MEI
Cash meets Cashless
2011 saw an increased level of interest in cashless payments in Vending. The biggest driver for this is the nature of the industry: Vending is all about convenience for the consumer whether it is product choice, product availability, location or being able to pay with whatever they have in the pocket at that particular time. It is little wonder that more and more vending operators consider adding cashless systems on their machines to be able to offer their customers more payment options and consequently increase sales. At this stage it is important to differentiate between: • public cashless - accepting card & mobile payments (often referred to as NFC) in public sites, such as train stations;
• and closed site cashless – the more traditional systems installed in workplace with a limited number of users per machine, hence the name. In either case it is important to find a partner who will not only be
able to supply the systems but more significantly advise on the most appropriate solution, which will fit the business needs & deliver the best ROI for operators. Just over a year ago MEI launched a new closed site cashless
range of products: CashFlow® mei-pay. The product family is based on MIFARE technology, which is already familiar to many consumers from the Oyster card. The benefit of using MIFARE is flexibility of set up and features on the one hand and high reliability & peace of mind in terms of data security on the other hand.
CF mei-pay range offers an array of set up possibilities to
operators and their customers, for example, bonus schemes to boost sales of slow moving products and encourage loyalty, and Happy Hours for employees working overtime. The variety of features available on CF mei-pay allows operators to create tailored solutions for individual sites and increase site retention through offering their customers an opportunity to reward their employees and also providing an option to free vend. MEI will not only advise you on the best set up for various sites but
will offer support in programming your new cashless systems. Moreover, the sites that already use MIFARE system for other applications (access control, for example) might be able to use the same media for Vending. When developing the CF mei-pay range we also took into account
the feedback from operators that one of the main concerns when considering cashless is the initial investment cost both for equipping new machines and upgrading the existing fieldbase. We addressed this issue by adding CF8500 to the range. CashFlow® 8500 is the new coin manager from MEI that has the cashless MIFARE reader already built in allowing it to accept both coins & cashless payments. Through integrating the cashless reader inside the CF8500, we reduced the amount of hardware involved. Now, all you need to start accepting cashless payments is a CF mei-pay front plate on the front of your machine. Key benefits of the new CF 8500 include: • Reduced hardware costs & footprint through integration • Cash & cashless audit data in one download • Complete price flexibility with possibility of price increments from 1p
