Omega Speedmaster Professional 1957 The Speedmaster was introduced in 1957 as a sports and racing chronograph, underlining Omega's position as the timekeeper for the Olympic Games since 1932. The name came from the novel tachymeter scale bezel, which can be used to compute speed based on travel time or measure distance based on speed. Today the “Speedy Moon” or “Moonwatch”
TODAY THE “SPEEDY MOON” OR “MOONWATCH” IS BEST KNOWN AS THE APPROVED WATCH FOR NASA ASTRONAUTS (AND FOR RUSSIAN COSMONAUTS).
Omega Speedmaster
is best known as the approved watch for NASA astronauts (and for Russian cosmonauts). It was the first watch used on a spacewalk (1965) and the first watch on the moon in 1969 (worn by Buzz Aldrin). Many limited editions and variations of the Speedmaster have been made over the years, including analogue digital and automatic mechanical watches. But the original hand- winding version with the Hesalite crystal is the one to have. (Hesalite is the trade name for an advanced synthetic, or plastic, crystal). That original version, with the classic 42-mm stainless steel case water-resistant to 167 feet, is still made.

Heuer Monaco 1969
Designed by Swiss watchmaking legend Jack Heuer, the bold and unusual looks of the Monaco 1133 made it instantly unmistakeable and highly desirable. It was the first square-cased, water-resistant and automatic micro-winding chronograph.
The original version had the crown on the left at the 9 o’clock position, pushbuttons at 2 and 4 o’clock, and a hand-applied date window at 6 o’clock. Its reputation was sealed in 1971 when it appeared on the wrist of the captain of cool, Steve McQueen, in the movie Le Mans. He wore it at the suggestion of Grand Prix driver Jo Siffert, who was a Heuer spokesman. Discontinued in the mid-70s, the Monaco
was reissued with a new design in 1998 and again with a new mechanism in 2003. Modern versions have the crown on the right and updated styling (the familiar prefix appeared after Heuer was bought by TAG in 1985). In 2009 a 40th- anniversary limited run of 1,000 with the original configuration sold out almost immediately.
