Here you can see Warren applying strong pressure to the outside ski
To avoid the outside ski sinking deep in the snow Warren evens out the pressure
PIsTE vs POWDEr
when carving on piste, skiers rightly learn to extend the outside leg while flexing – or softening – the inside leg, in a pedalling action, as warren demonstrates above, top. This movement is required through most of your skiing development. However, to adapt to ever-changing conditions off piste, you need to ease off the pedalling action, because too much pressure on the outside ski causes it to sink. In the powder shot immediately above, notice how warren’s weight is more equally split over his skis, with both ski tips riding evenly on the surface of the snow.
