Exercise and your noggin
It’s no secret that a strenuous workout is great for your waistline, but can it also improve your memory? Subjects who exercised performed signifi cantly better on the memory test. In blood tests, researchers found that a protein called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) increased notably after activity—suggesting that exercise-spurred BDNF helps improve memory.

Simple Squares
These treats’ unique, not-too- sweet herbal combinations caught my fancy. In addition to seven raw ingredients, including organic nuts and honey, creator Kimberly Crupi Dobbins infuses each gluten- and dairy-free confection with sage, rosemary, or coconut— an unexpected taste innovation. Simply brilliant. –Elisa Bosley, senior food editor
