Contents Dear Reader,
Michael Gove opened the BETT show last month to announce a major shake-up of the ICT curriculum. With too many children being taught how to use the software rather than make it, a new computing curriculum is now on the horizon. Gove's proposals were widely welcomed at the show and made for some interesting conversations - turn to page 14 for more on this. Much of what Gove talked about was already underway, with gaming in technology featuring heavily on the show floor. Read our review in full on page 15 and find out what some of the winners of the BETT Awards 2012 had to say on page 25.
Also this month we find out why schools must create the next generation of world class scientists if the UK is to compete on a global level in 'Bringing STEM to life in the classroom' (P28) while covering the latest education news on pages 4-7.
Given recent developments it’s no surprise that teachers, business managers, Ofsted and teaching unions will gather at the Education Show next month to discuss the latest education issues. The show has always been an engaging mixture of policy, ideals and practical activities, and thousands of resources for visitors to test and compare. You can register for fast track entry on
