Award-winning free support website for parents O


xford Owl - the most popular teacher- endorsed website that gives parents advice on how to help their child’s learning – has now also become a BETT award winner! Oxford University Press’ free parent website won the Digital Collections and Resource Banks award from BETT, a major educational ICT awarding panel .


The BETT Awards took place at the London Hilton in January and were held alongside the BETT exhibition. The Awards brought together the industries key players to highlight and recognise the most innovative initiatives. Oxford Owl is completely free, there is no need to sign up or register and so it is accessible to all by simply visiting www.oxfordowl.co.uk. Oxford Owl launched in 2011 and has become one of the most popular parent support websites, both within the UK and around the world.


The website has been designed with a wide range of experts in their field, from Educational Advisors and Librarians to Teachers, and of course parents, to provide advice and simple, but effective ideas for parents to help with their children’s learning at home. A recent independent survey of teachers conducted by Children's Forum demonstrated that 100% teachers would recommend the site. Aside from over 250 FREE eBooks for parents to share with their child, Oxford Owl has a wealth of expert advice, support and information for parents. This includes ideas for motivating boys to read, top tips for keeping juniors reading, fun ways of integrating reading into everyday life , videos from experts including Ruth Miskin, Gary Wilson and Nikki Gamble, as well as a whole host of games and activities for children to enjoy.


The Autumn term saw the website grow to include Oxford Owl Maths which is packed full of advice and ideas for getting children aged 3- 7 interested in maths at home, with fantastic interactive games, downloadable activities,


maths eBooks and a very tasty muffin recipe! Oxford Owl has recently also extended its reading support up to age 11 with top tips and handy book lists to help parents and their children choose the right books for them, with great advice about different types of reader


and how to motivate them to keep reading. One parent commented, “This website is fantastic; it has everything for my 6 year old who loves reading and also my 10 year old who has been struggling with phonics and reading… Well done.”
