 FIFA 12continued its fine run of form with its fifth consecutive UK chart No.1. It has now generated more revenue than any other sports game in the UK to date. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to reverse the market’s steady week-on- week decline.


 Overall, the UK games retail market generated £12.1m last week, a 13.6 per cent decrease over the £14m made the week prior. Unit sales also slipped 13.9 per cent from 662,463 to 570,388.


Week Ending January 14th


 Rayman Originsmade its Top Ten debut this week after rising from No.17 to No.9, thanks to price promotions at retail. Fitness games continued to perform well, with Zumba Fitness steady at No.6 and Wii Fit Plusjumping from No.20 to No.15.


Week Ending January 21st


 Capcom’s Resident Evil: Revelationsarrives in the UK today (Friday, January 27th), ending several weeks without any big new releases. It’s the first of many Resident Evilgames due this year.

AN UPBEAT start to 2012 has seen games and consoles TV advertising increase 28 per cent year-on-year. This growth has been stimulated by six extra campaigns compared to 2011 (22 versus 16).


Health and fitness related titles have contributed the lion’s share of 2012 activity, with five games on air compared to just two in 2011.

Nintendo has been the most active advertiser, with 233 TVRs (34 per cent market share). But Microsoft is close behind with 190 TVRs (27 per cent market share). One TVR is equivalent to one per cent of a target audience. The largest campaign of 2012 so far has been for Nintendo’s 3DS, amassing 106 TVRs, 15 per cent of the total market. EA Sports Active 2was the top campaign for the same period last year.
