adam.savage@intentmedia.co.uk Editorial Comment All change

IT HAS ALREADY BEEN quite a start to the year, with plenty of ranges changing distributors.

Most of them involve JHS, which has said goodbye to Allen and Heath (which went to Audio-Technica) and Jim Dunlop electronics (which has gone to Westside) and said hello to the Studiomaster and Carlsbro ranges. The latter deal is particularly canny business for the firm and the two are aguably a better fit with the rest of its line-up. Good to see Carlsbro with a more traditional MI distributor once again. It can only be good for the brand.

Elsewhere, Aria has also lost its MD and the Seymour Duncan pickups and Fusion accessories range to Rosetti. Marshall has acquired the Eden bass amp range and Gibson has made two moves into the audio market with its acquisition of Stantion and joint project with Onkyo. It’s certainly better than starting the new year talking about further retail difficulties, but unfortunately I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of that either.

www.mi-pro.co.uk What is it indicative of?

Well, it shows the level of competition that exists in the distribution market and that brand owners have plenty of options out there when it comes to reaching UK retail. Which should only be good news for retailers in terms of the support levels they receive. Manufacturers will not settle for less in an increasingly competitive market. And why should they?
