SECTOR SPOTLIGHT Acoustics Titanic Guitars

100 years after the launch of the Titanic, a Belfast company has designed a range of limited edition guitars to celebrate the milestone. Launching at NAMM, Titanic Guitars features eight custom models (four acoustic and four electric), each limited to 100 pieces. Every guitar features select wood such as mahogany or rosewood, a custom made hard-shell case, a limited edition engraved G7th capo, plus a numbered certificate of authenticity.

The Liverpool Concert is £899 with solid mahogany back and sides, with a solid mahogany top. Other models include the Belfast Goliath (jumbo), Southampton Parlour and New York Dreadnought. Prices range from £899 to £1179.

Recording King

The ROS 616 is a vintage style all solid mahogany model with 12 fret body join and slotted headstock for around £640. Also available is the ROS 627, which has a solid spruce top and rosewood back and sides for £760. Both models feature scalloped bracing and 1-13/16” nut width.

Boulder Creek

The ECR3-N Solitaire model is a true dreadnought featuring cedar top, mahogany back, rosewood fingerboard and mahogany neck. The bracing system features suspended aluminium tone bars similar to the material used in wind chimes. By repositioning the sound hole to the side of the guitars, these bars vibrate much more than wood bracing and transfer the vibration from the bridge area to the other contact points of the soundboard to create better tone and increased sustain. It is equipped with a built in tuner and full EQ and retails for £745.

Martin

The Road Series from Martin was re-introduced last year with the DRS-1, a guitar with all solid sapele (Martin’s eco friendly alternative to mahogany) construction dreadnought with built in Fishman Sonitone pickup for £709. The 2012 NAMM show will also introduce the DRS-2, a solid sitka spruce top model. Another main focus for Martin has been expanding its

Performing Artist series. There are three body shapes in each series – dreadnought, grand auditorium and OM – electro acoustic live performance models with slim fast neck profiles and some of Fishman’s Aura pickup technology on board many in the range (the 1, 2 and 3 series). The Aura system can emulate different body shapes and styles and have built-in tuning and feedback suppression. Prices range from £1,199 (4 Series) to £2,899 (1 Series).
