Case studies and interviews

Case study:

OLUMUYIWA ASEDA, NIGERIA MA INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

Olumuyiwa won a place on the prestigious United Nations internship scheme. He spent several weeks at the UN headquarters in New York gaining invaluable experience.

“Our tutors encouraged us to apply for internships to gain practical and valuable firsthand experience. I was privileged to meet with world leaders from Presidents to Prime Ministers. The internship also provided a forum of networking opportunities with other individuals and interns from diverse backgrounds, who can be of assistance to one another in the future once contacts are made and maintained.”

Case study:

MELISSA BENT, UK BSC PSYCHOLOGY

“I chose Middlesex because I was impressed by how many work experience, volunteering and

employment opportunities it offers. I have volunteered in the Student Associates Scheme working as a

teaching assistant in a school, followed by working as a student ambassador for Middlesex, promoting higher education to young people. I have also completed a one year work placement at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. The Placements Team at Middlesex helped me find, apply and interview well for placements I was interested in, which meant I was able to get my first choice. I loved my placement and it reconfirmed that a career in Educational Psychology was exactly what I wanted to do. I worked as a teaching assistant with hospitalised children who were unable to attend their regular school. All the lessons were specifically constructed to lift their spirits and help them to learn. It was such an incredible and invaluable experience that developed skills that will last a lifetime. Studying at Middlesex was definitely the right decision for me. I’ve had an amazing time, gained independence and built confidence.”
