Aerospace, added, “Resistance to PMA is breaking down. Airlines can regain control by insisting on the option to use PMA parts. The use of PMA parts can lead to savings of up to $1 million per event. Leases that do not allow PMA will become unattractive.” Another hot topic session was entitled, “PMA – The Issues for End-Users.” In this session, Delta Airlines’ David Linebaugh, discussed the challenges and benefits PMA parts have brought to Delta. Linebaugh took the attendees into the world of using PMA parts on a regular basis. He said the airline

had been using PMA parts since 1984 and had focused on PMA parts usage as a key part of their cost reduction strategy since 2004. “PMA parts lower cost without a reduction in quality. That is not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of fact,” said Linebaugh. He said that Delta had focused on the use of PMA not only for the lower cost but also for their availability. Linebaugh also praised the PMA makers for their “responsiveness to customer needs.” In the same session, Andy Shields,

vice president PMA – Wencor said that often it is not the leasing holders that

create problems for those wishing to use PMA parts but the banks providing the actual financing. “In my personal experience, I have seen lease holders argue for PMA. Most of them are pretty educated and do a good job. It’s when the banks get involved – this is where the problems come.” Shields said. He cautioned attendees to understand their leasing contracts and to understand PMA parts and emphasized “if airlines don’t do that, things can get complicated.” — By Joy Finnegan

AVIATION MAINTENANCE ANNOUNCES AVM SUMMIT BRAND AND ADDITIONAL NEW TOPIC

Building on the recent successful International PMA Summit on 3-4th November 2011 in London Aviation Maintenance is launching the umbrella AVM Summit brand for 2012 and beyond. The AVM Summit will incorporate a growing number of co-located conferences around a central exhibition. For 2012, the main conference will be that of the PMA Parts Conference but joined by an MRO Software conference. First we bring you the 2nd Annual PMA Conference and

as with our first event detailed above, this event is designed to give you clear insight into the opportunities and challenges associated with PMA usage. In 2012 we will emphasize and focus our information on dealing with leasing company agreements, how to make the most of the Bilateral Aviation

Safety Agreements (BASA) and more insights from airlines already using PMAs and how they are benefitting. We are adding a second MRO Software

conference to be held simultaneously, in the same venue. This second conference will target how to harness the power of aviation maintenance-related software. Today’s aviation maintenance software is complex, sophisticated and designed to help across the spectrum from the smallest detail to the big picture. Join us here to learn about the many solutions available to help MROs and airlines meet the complex challenge of maintaining aircraft today. If you would like to propose a speaker for the event please contact editor Joy Finnegan via jfinnegan@avmain-mag.com.
