Air New Zealand orders up to 12 ATR 72-600
Air New Zealand and European regional aircraft manufacturer ATR announced the order of seven firm new generation ATR 72-600s, plus options
for five
additional aircraft. The deal is valued at more than $270 million, including options. The first of the 68 seat ATR 72-600 aircraft will be delivered to Air New Zealand in October 2012. Deliveries will be completed in 2016. The airline, based in Auckland, New Zealand, currently operates 11 ATR 72-500 aircraft through its subsidiary carrier, Mount Cook Airline. The announcement of seven firm orders and options for a further five aircraft potentially doubles the company’s current ATR fleet, when all the options will be exercised.
“The ATR 72-500 has been a core part of our extensive regional operations in New Zealand since 1999. It has proven to be very popular with our customers and very cost- effective to operate,” says Rob Fyfe, CEO of Air New Zealand. “We now need to expand our fleet, not only to add frequencies on existing routes but to step up from smaller aircraft types.”
LAN Airlines Performs 1500th Cyclean Engine Wash
LAN Airlines has performed its 1,500th Cyclean engine wash. LAN Airlines is using Lufthansa Technik’s Cyclean engine water wash equipment since June 2010 and has currently leased four units which are based in Santiago, Chile, Lima and Miami. This coverage enables LAN to perform cleanings of its whole engine portfolio, including the CF6-80C2, PW4000, PW6000, V2500 and CFM56-5C types. LAN says that due to Cyclean, their engines run at lower temperatures, use less fuel and therefore emit less CO2
and other greenhouse gases. “Depending on type, we wash
every engine of our fleet every 40 or 90 days the latest,” says Cristián León, Powerplant Components & Materials vice-president LAN. “With this interval we reach an optimum in engine overall performance improvement. Due to Cyclean we achieve a fleet-wide fuel consumption reduction of 2120 tons every year, meaning 6550 tons of CO2
-emission.” ST Aerospace Clinches CFM56-7B/7BE Engine Mx

First AMOS Customer in Mongolia
Eznis Airways selected AMOS as their new MRO software package and promptly launched the implementation in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The introduction of AMOS coincides with the phasing in of two Avro RJ85 aircraft and moving into a new hangar. Eznis Airways says AMOS is considered a long-time investment that will help consolidate its maintenance processes and at the same time develop its in-house maintenance capacity with the ultimate goal of performing inhouse C- checks in two years time.
Due to the limited number of AMOS users at Eznis Airways, the implementation is be very lean and fast. The users completed the AMOS basic e-learning course, followed by a two-week “System Awareness” session and the next step will be to conduct workshops. The current project schedule predicts AMOS will go-live in December 2011.
