The Club Lobby

As promised, we are displaying five paint- ings and five sculptures from the collec- tion of the very famous Marine artist, Colonel Charles Waterhouse. He has made a special donation to the Club for display. Colonel Waterhouse fought as a PFC on Iwo Jima. He became an artist and was assigned by the Marine Corps as the first Artist-in-Residence. He has produced hundreds of paintings docu- menting the history of the Marine Corps. Next time you are here, take a minute to look around. I know you will be pleased with the display. We are honored that Colonel Waterhouse chose our Club to display his works.

Keeping Our “Green” Focus We continue to work toward the goal of having the greenest operation in the City. We’ve installed an efficient climate control system in the hotel rooms that is turned off when the room is unoccupied. We have educated all of our employees about conserving energy. We’re replac- ing all of our commodes with low-flush models that use far

less water. We’re

looking at all ways to reduce our use of water and the commensurate waste water. Next time you are here you will notice the difference.

“For the American people are a very generous people and will forgive almost any weakness, with the possible exception of stupidity.” —Will Rogers

Our Reciprocal Clubs

We continue to add new Reciprocal Clubs to our portfolio. We know you Members appreciate this benefit of mem- bership. The most popular are the Army Navy Club in Washington, DC, located one block from the White House, and The New York Athletic Club, located on Central Park South. Four of our Recipro- cal Clubs are in New York City; 3 are in Washington, DC; 12 are in the UK; 1 is in Ireland; 7 are in Australia; and 13 are in Canada. A significant number of these clubs were brought to our attention by Members. We thank them for helping us expand this program. Most of the Recip- rocal Clubs are private clubs with dress codes. You can find a link to our Recip- rocal Clubs at www.MarineClub.com.

More Care Packages for the Troops in Afghanistan

We continue to ask for your donations to help us send “care packages” to our troops in Afghanistan. Every single dollar you donate goes directly to the project. We know the troops appreciate the TRX suspension trainers because it’s tough to stay in shape in some of the remote areas. This past mail out included a healthy shipment of school supplies for the Marines to give to the Afghanistan school children. Every single dollar you donate goes directly to the project.

Keeping the Marines’ Memorial Club an Attractive Place to Stay

If you’ve been here lately, you must have noticed that we have brand new beds, new bed covers, new pillows, and new, fluffier towels. We have a wonderful housekeeping department and they are intent to keep our rooms the cleanest and freshest rooms anywhere. Internet access is free and very fast. The room safes will remain and, due to the demand, we’re keeping refrigerators in the rooms. Our fitness center is top-notch and, as guests, you can use the health club free of charge.
