nanotimes News in Brief
(APIX), the first startup to emerge from their Alliance for Nanosystems VLSI. APIX will design, manufac- ture, and bring to market analysis systems based on a new concept of miniaturized chromatography. By applying microelectronic technologies developed at CEA-Leti and Caltech, the founders of APIX created a new way to implement gas chromatography. It is based on Nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) sensors. Building on this initial breakthrough, Leti and Caltech added significant new techniques in the field of components, electronics, and algorithms that led to the development of prototypes that are small, accurate, and fast.

The tenth edition of the JRC PV Status Report indi- cates that in 2010, the photovoltaic (PV) industry production more than doubled and reached a

world-wide production volume of 23.5 gigawatt (GW) of photovoltaic modules. Since 1990, photo- voltaic module production has increased more than 500-fold from 46 megawatts (MW) to 23.5 GW in 2010, which makes photovoltaics one of the fastest- growing industries at present.
