Few world cruising boats are as safe and comfortable offshore as the Hallberg-Rassy 53 when conditions turn foul. I’ve beat into gale forces winds off the Oregon coast and run before vio- lent squalls and turbulent Gulf Stream seas off the Carolinas while delivering HR53’s. Thanks to the Frers-designed hull with round bilges, moderate overhangs, generous bow flare and sheer, powerful rudder and deep keel, motion is extremely gentle and direction control and stability superb. Consistent 180nm daily passages are achieved with an easily managed, “pushbutton” sailplan. True to Hallberg-Rassy form, construction details are top notch: the rigging is well oversized, hull to deck joint is glassed together and all bulkheads and furniture are fully tabbed to deck and hull. Revelation features an upgraded teak interior, hydraulic mainsail and genoa furling, powered winches, bow thruster, watermaker, air conditioning, diesel heaters, updated dinghy and outboard, updated electronics and everything necessary for extended world cruising. Her original Swiss owner cruised northern Europe before cross- ing the Atlantic and cruising the US east coast and Great Lakes. She was shipped to British Columbia from Toronto and stored on the hard for a few years. Her current and second owner has cruised the Pacific Northwest each summer.
