3. Cut or plane the two athwartship planks to the curve of the deck – one of the fore and aft planks will need to be cut to match.
4. Make the corner joints. They can be as simple as overlapping (butt joint) the 2 x 6’s (Figure 3). They should be glued and screwed. Because you will be screwing into end grain, it is important to drill a lead or pilot hole (1

6. Once the glue joints have cured, you can affix the Plexiglas without using sealant. You don’t need sealant because it is not important if it leaks.
7. Apply the weather stripping to the bottom of the cover, leaving a 1” space at the lowest part of it so water can exit to drain overboard (Figure 5).
You can now leave your hatch
open an inch or so. The warm air will condense on the Plexiglas of the hatch cover instead of the inside of your hatch(s). Light will still make its way below and you are now free to exhale!
