Noel Coward was one of Cunard’s most frequent celebrity travellers, with a reputation for his social graces and a penchant for cocktails and caviar. In 1921 he sought a new life across the Atlantic when he bought a one- way ticket on Aquitania. So the story goes,
he headed for Broadway with little more than a suitcase and a sheaf of scripts to his name. The rest, as they say, is history.
