Population boom

Religious restriction
Nearly one-third of the world’s total population (more than 2.2 billion people) lives in nations where government restrictions on religion rose significantly over the last decade. In 12% of these areas, restrictions on religious practices and beliefs grew more severe in the last three years.

More churches needed in Indianapolis
Some 2 million people live in the metro Indianapolis area with more than 70 people groups calling the city home. On any given Sunday 82% of Indianapolis residents are not in any church. And only one Southern Baptist church exists for every 18,000 people in metro Indianapolis. The North American Mission Board has launched Send North America: Indianapolis to assist and mobilize churches and individuals who want to plant churches in this thriving city. Safety check
More and more churches are using background check software to screen potential volunteers. The number of organizations using background checks has risen 27% in the last year with close to 1,700 churches or religious organizations checking on more than 25,000 volunteers. Though the process can be tedious, these churches are looking to protect the safety of your kids and families.

A growing population
According to a report published by the U.S. Census Bureau and CNN, the nation’s population grew 9.7% to 308.7 million during the last decade. Researchers tracked the total population change in the nation over the last 10 years and found:


• HIGHEST TOTAL POPULATION:
Los Angeles County, Calif. (9,818,605)


• LOWEST TOTAL POPULATION:
Loving County, Texas (82)


• HIGHEST POPULATION DENSITY:
New York County, N.Y. (69,468 per sq. mile)


• HIGHEST POPULATION CHANGE:
Kendall County, Ill. (up 110%)


• LOWEST POPULATION CHANGE:
St. Bernard Parish, La. (down 46%)
