Poll: Manufacturing Growing Again Manufacturers have increased their
outsourcing investments to companies like metalcasting facilities in 2011 and plan to continue to do so through the end of the year, according to a survey by software provider Arena Solutions, Foster City, Calif. Answering the “2011 Arena
Solutions Manufacturing Outsourcing Survey,” 42% of respondents said they planned to add one or more contract manufacturers in order to diversify or add capacity by the end of 2011. Almost 50% of the manufacturing companies in the survey indicated they planned to introduce new products in their current market, 39.7% said they would introduce new products in new markets and 46.1% said they planned
Bronze Statues Cast for Canadian Icon

Alberta, B.C., Canada, has completed the casting and installation of four statues of Canadian hero Terry Fox at the BC Place Stadium. Using computer model designs by
artist Douglas Couplan, the statues were brought to life by Stephen Harman of Red Deer. T e BC Place Stadium, which was used for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics, recently unveiled a memorial plaza to Terry Fox featuring the bronze statues. T e four statues are placed in a line on a narrowing granite highway, creating the appearance that Fox is running. T e sizes of each statue are graduated, the fi nal one reaching 11 ft. In 1980, Fox ran the equivalent
of a full marathon every day for 143 days to raise money for cancer research. Fox ran on an artificial leg, as his was amputated due to cancer. He stopped his journey when the cancer spread to his lungs. He died the following year. Fox runs are still held in his memory to raise money towards cancer research.

Arena Solutions between May and June of 2011 with 1,004 participants from a variety of manufacturing segments, including industrial
parts, high-tech components, medical devices and consumer products. Most of the companies surveyed were from the U.S. Several companies from Europe and Asia also were polled.
